About the role
Our client, a small company in Center, Texas, is seeking a hands-on Bookkeeper / Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the business. This is a unique opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats and taking ownership of the entire accounting cycle in a small business environment.
The ideal candidate may come from a full-charge bookkeeping, accounting manager, or controller background and will be comfortable managing everything from transactional accounting to financial reporting and business support.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger activities.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules for ownership and management.
- Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, and financial planning activities.
- Monitor account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies as needed.
- Coordinate with external CPA firm for tax preparation, audits, and financial reporting requirements.
- Process payroll and administer related reporting and compliance requirements.
- Support operational and administrative functions as needed in a small business environment.
- Develop and improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes.
- Serve as a trusted business partner to leadership by providing financial insights and recommendations.
Requirements
- Experience ranging from Full-Charge Bookkeeper, Accounting Manager, or Controller level.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Hands-on experience managing multiple accounting functions in a small or mid-sized business environment.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks required.
- Experience with payroll processing, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and month-end close.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Experience overseeing accounting operations with minimal supervision.
- Ability to identify process improvements and implement best practices.
- Prior experience supporting a small business or family-owned company is highly preferred.
