Bookkeeper
About the role
Avenue5 is seeking a bookkeeper to join our dynamic team of Fivers. We are a vibrant third-party multifamily property management firm with locations across the United States. Responsibilities
- Oversee all collection efforts at the assigned property (including both current and previous residents).
- Process and manage rental and miscellaneous income, post to the property management system, and code invoices.
- Manage property delinquencies by calling and serving balance due letters and/or three-day notices to residents with unpaid balances.
- File and manage the eviction process as required.
- Complete final accounting statements for residents upon move out.
- Complete the pre-close and month-end process and checklist for client accounting.
- Set up new suppliers with accounts payable to ensure compliance.
- Aid property accountants with various accounting functions.
- Send receivable and payable batches weekly to accounting and accounts payable.
- Reconcile receivable and accounts payable accounts as required.
- Aid the property manager with managing income and expenses in accordance with the planned budget.
- Prepare and deliver renewal letters to residents and maintain a renewal workbook/list.
- Prepare journal entries.
- Perform bank reconciliations and trace discrepancies.
- Input client accounts payable invoices and generate payments.
- Generate (or interpret) business owner financial reports in accordance with IRS guidelines.
- Forecast cash flows to anticipate cash needs and prevent deficit spending.
- Other duties as assigned by the property manager.
Requirements
- High school diploma is required.
- At least one year of experience in accounting or a related field is required.
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
- Ability to prioritize, set and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Intermediate level knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Clear understanding of all basic office equipment (ability to operate ten-key calculator, computer, and other office equipment).
- Clear understanding of profit and loss statements, general ledgers, budgeting, financial reporting, etc.
- Required to pass the Avenue5 Fair Housing, Diversity and Inclusion Training within 30 days of employment.
Scheduling
Typically, normal property hours. Days and hours may vary based on need.
Environment
Exposure to environment typically found in an office building. Possible exposure to short-tempered or aggressive people.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push and pull up to 25 pounds.
- Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency required.
- Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend and stoop for extended periods of time.
- Talking and expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Ability to compare, copy, coordinate, synthesize, negotiate, communicate, and instruct.
