About the role
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records across Affinity Group's Food Service and Retail divisions. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, this role handles day-to-day bookkeeping functions, supports month-end close, and ensures that financial data is organized, reconciled, and ready for reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process vendor invoices, expense reports, and check requests accurately and on time.
- Record and apply customer payments; follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies with internal teams and external partners.
- General Ledger & Month-End Close:
- Maintain the general ledger; post journal entries weekly.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Support the month-end and year-end close process by preparing schedules and variance analyses.
- Payroll & Expense:
- Assist with payroll processing and reconciliation.
- Review and process employee expense reports in accordance with company policy.
- Cross-Divisional Coordination:
- Maintain accurate records for both the Food Service and Retail divisions, keeping accounts properly coded and segmented.
- Work closely with the sales, operations, and brokerage teams to resolve coding questions and support vendor or customer inquiries.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop or Online) or similar accounting software.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic formulas).
- Solid understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes.
- High attention to detail and accuracy; ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset.
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Experience with food brokerage, distributor, or multi-division accounting environments.
