Boilermaker
About the Role
Cleaver Brooks Sales and Service is seeking a Boilermaker to join our team in San Antonio, TX. The Boilermaker will travel daily to customer sites to assemble boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels according to blueprint specifications, using power tools and hand tools.
Responsibilities
- Assembles boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels according to blueprint specifications.
- Reads blueprints to determine location and relationship of parts.
- Connects fire tubes to heads or water tubes to drums and headers of boilers.
- Drills and taps holes for installation of studs.
- Tightens bolts to assemble frames.
- Mounts casings of water tube boilers or attaches davit heads, burners, or furnace casing to fire tube boilers.
- Bolts or screws accessories such as man-holes, hand-holes, fans, gauges, and valves to vessels.
- Replaces defective parts or piping.
- May install and repair refractory brick or furnace tile.
- May thread and install pipe.
- May remove and replace insulation and caulk seams to repair insulation.
- May cut out defective parts, boiler tubes, or tube ends using an acetylene torch.
- Performs piping layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance for boiler systems.
- Selects type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
- Inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and ensure piping integrity.
- Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and coordinate with other workers.
- Cuts, threads, assembles, and installs metal pipes and fittings.
- Secures pipes to structures with clamps, brackets, and hangers.
- Tests piping systems for leaks.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Ability to make decisions based on measurable criteria.
- Ability to visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
- Physical ability to work skillfully with hands, lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and scaffolds, and stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate safety equipment.
- Valid current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of industrial and commercial safety, LOTO, working overhead, confined space entry, and basic electricity safety.
