Plant Manager

About the Role

The Plant Manager oversees the operations of a production facility, ensuring efficient production, quality control, safety, and compliance with regulations. This role involves strategic planning to improve plant efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity while collaborating with other departments to meet production goals.

Responsibilities

• Present complex information clearly and concisely.
• Ensure optimal production levels with minimal plant downtime.
• Coordinate production with sales demands and long-range planning.
• Work with quality control technicians to meet customer needs.
• Maintain and utilize stationary and mobile equipment to minimize costs and downtime.
• Develop and manage an annual operating budget, including production volume and capital improvements.
• Ensure the site meets or exceeds the operating budget.
• Collaborate with sales to address and resolve customer issues, improving satisfaction and relations.
• Implement cost-saving programs and continuous improvement activities.
• Lead daily production meetings on plant operations.
• Proactively ensure the safety of all personnel and activities in the plant.
• Maintain dust control systems for a healthy work environment.
• Understand waste products and their proper disposal to minimize environmental impact.
• Work with Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) teams to promote a safe work environment compliant with state and federal regulations.
• Maintain proper inventory levels to support sales and market demands.
• Ensure product quality and consistency with the onsite QC Technician.
• Collaborate with sales staff and customers to meet product expectations.
• Manage financial decisions, including budgets, forecasts, inventory, labor, and capital planning.
• Seek and implement improvement activities to reduce costs and enhance efficiency.
• Initiate environmental permits and prepare reports for public agencies, coordinating with legal teams on compliance issues.
• Engage in community relations, outreach, and legislative efforts.
• Demonstrate leadership, maintain open communication with staff, and provide coaching or disciplinary counseling as needed.
• Identify, assess, prioritize, and resolve production and employee-related problems.
• Supervise hourly production and maintenance employees.
• Approve hiring, training, status changes, and separations of employees.
• Ensure employees receive proper training and instructions for their roles.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; BS/BA degree, Associate degree, or equivalent combination of related field and work experience preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in production, preferably in aggregate, sand/gravel, or asphalt plants.
• Construction materials industry experience preferred.
• Knowledge of modern supervisory principles and plant operations (aggregate, asphalt, ready mix).
• Understanding of safety and environmental regulations (MSHA and OSHA).
• Familiarity with business planning and financial forecasting.
• Knowledge of drilling and blasting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment, and other relevant software.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to plan and manage effectively using motivation and team-building skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability.
• Flexibility to work long hours and travel as needed.
• Professional representation of the company to customers, vendors, and employees.

Other Requirements

• Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
• Daily operation of a pickup truck.
• Overnight travel may be required.
• Proficiency with computerized equipment and technology.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Flexibility to work at multiple sites based on business needs.
• Ability to work in a stressful, deadline-driven environment with complex technical information.
• Work environment includes both office and outdoor settings (quarry/plant), with exposure to dust, fumes, gases, and temperature/humidity changes.
• Physical activities may include climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, or reaching above shoulders.
• Operation of vehicles within the plant site and on public roads.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $130,000 - $150,000 per year, not inclusive of discretionary bonuses or equity packages. Compensation is determined based on skillset, experience, job scope, and market data.
