About the role
Boilerhouse Relief Department: Steam Power Plant
Reports to: Brian Way
Location: Wisconsin Rapids
Key Responsibilities & Expected Results
- Assists Operators as required.
- Operates boiler water treatment equipment and mixes boiler water chemicals, completes grease routes.
- Collections boiler water samples, conducts tests as required and interprets results.
- Assists with startups and shutdowns.
- Reports malfunctions or irregularities to Control Operator.
- Performs general housekeeping duties and other duties as assigned by supervision.
- Maintains auxiliary equipment.
Technical Skills
- Successfully complete Steam Power Plant training program and progress through various levels of operator licensing program.
- Obtain First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Lift 50 lbs. occasionally, e.g., chemicals, clean-up of waste materials, move 55-gallon drums, etc.
- Climb, e.g., stairs and ladders.
- Do considerable amount of walking throughout shift.
- Read and use measuring devices, e.g., pH meters, conductivity meters, etc.
- Perform precise laboratory practices.
- Respond to emergency situations and perform under pressure.
- Have and maintain vision standards to meet job requirements, perform safely and attend all safety meetings.
- Special consideration will be given to those with boiler or turbine experience.
Qualifications
- Able to meet the physical requirements of the above job.
- Able to distinguish colors.
- Pass vision test.
- Pass a respirator fit test.
- Able to enter and work in confined spaces.
- Able to work in extreme heat conditions in a fire suit.
- Able to work around air borne particulates (i.e., coal dust, wood dust, etc.).
- Able to work with cleaning chemicals, solvents, detergents, acid and caustic-based cleaners, etc.
Working Conditions
- Tolerate temperature extremes in carrying out responsibilities.
- Work in varying conditions (indoor/outdoor, heights, confined spaces).
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and seldom up to 80 pounds.
- Expected to work overtime and weekends as needed.
