About the role

The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction enforces statewide standards for building construction. The Boiler Inspection Section inspects all new installations of boilers, pressure vessels, and pressure piping to ensure compliance with state statutes and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects pressure vessels and pressure piping systems.
  • Checks manufacturers, owners, and operators to determine compliance with pressure vessel laws.
  • Investigates pressure vessels and pressure piping system complaints.
  • Prepares inspection reports, certificates, accident, and investigative reports.
  • Participates in trainings and studies Power Piping, Boiler, and Pressure Vessel codes.

Requirements

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience, Training, or Skills: Three years of practical experience in one of the following areas:

  • Installation, construction, maintenance, quality control inspection and assurance, or repair of pressure vessels.
  • Operation of high pressure boilers and pressure vessels as a mechanical engineer, practical steam operating engineer, boilermaker, pressure vessel inspector, or boiler inspector.
  • HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems installation or maintenance.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license prior to employment.
  • Must pass the department-administered Pressure Vessel Inspector examination and obtain a valid certificate of competency as a Pressure Vessel Inspector within twelve months of appointment.
  • Must maintain any required licensure, certification, or other credentials for the length of employment.

Pay

$2,976.04 - $4,464.04 monthly

Schedule

37.5 hours per week

Working Conditions

  • Daily travel required.
  • Initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months.
