About the role
The Fire Inspector I is responsible for inspection and enforcement of municipal and state fire prevention codes and regulations to protect lives and property in the City. Work involves responsibility for improving standards of public safety by securing compliance with codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations for all structures, vehicles, and events.
Responsibilities
- Reviews and evaluates plans for new construction, sprinkler systems, fire protection and alarm systems when assigned.
- Improves standards of public safety by securing compliance with codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations for all structures, vehicles, and events.
- Educates others during an inspection about the hazards of fire, the benefits of fire prevention, fire protection, fire codes, and promotion of fire safety when necessary.
Requirements
- A combination of education and experience in the application of fire, life safety, and building codes which includes knowledge of commercial building construction and fire protection systems.
- A degree in Fire Science/Fire Protection/Fire Engineering preferred.
- Candidate must attain NFPA CFRI or higher certification within one year of employment.

Pay
The full salary range is $30.61 to $36.99 per hour and is nonexempt.
