Body Shop Manager
About the role
As the Body Shop Manager at Murphy-Hoffman Company, LLC (MHC)—North America’s largest Kenworth truck Dealership and Leasing group—you will oversee the day-to-day operation of the branch’s Body Shop in compliance with established policies and procedures. You will plan, direct, and control Body Shop activities to meet growth and profit objectives, formulate major objectives and specific plans, and evaluate department performance against those goals. The role includes maintaining high-quality customer service standards, assessing future needs and trends, and setting short- and long-term operating and financial objectives aligned with company plans. You will also promote safe work habits, sell repair and body shop labor, write estimates, maintain tools and equipment, review repair orders, and develop strong relationships with customers, adjusters, and insurance companies.
This is a safety-sensitive position. Any lapse of attention could result in injury, illness, or death, including operating or monitoring heavy equipment, machinery, motor vehicles, or handling hazardous materials.
Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and control Body Shop activities to ensure growth and profit objectives are met.
- Formulate major objectives, plans, procedures, and programs for the Body Shop.
- Evaluate department results and performance against objectives, taking corrective action as needed.
- Maintain high-quality customer service standards and identify customer needs.
- Assess present and future needs, trends, problems, and profit opportunities for the Body Shop.
- Establish short- and long-term operating and financial objectives aligned with company plans.
- Ensure policies and objectives are clearly understood and effectively applied within the department.
- Formulate annual and monthly sales/profit objectives and expense budgets.
- Review and appraise department activities, taking appropriate action as necessary.
- Maintain communication within and between all branch departments.
- Promote safe work habits and ensure safety rules are followed.
- Sell customer repair and body shop labor, including direct outreach to customers for repair work.
- Write estimates for wrecks, both local and out-of-town as needed.
- Maintain company service tools and equipment, ensuring proper use.
- Review all Body Shop repair orders for completeness and alignment with original estimates and supplements.
- Develop and maintain good relations with customers, adjusters, and insurance companies.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of a body shop operation.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a body shop-related field.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Excellent management and communication skills.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to collaboration across departments for company success.
CDL preferred.
