About the role
A Boat Mechanic performs a variety of duties including fiberglass repair, marine mechanics, upholstery, general maintenance, and welding. This role requires flexibility, a willingness to assist wherever needed, and the ability to work outside in extreme heat while maintaining a commitment to high-quality work.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and a pleasant atmosphere in the dock and work area.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on boats, buildings, docks, engines, and electrical systems.
- Handle plumbing, countertop replacements, paneling, carpentry, painting, carpeting, and electrical work.
- Troubleshoot and repair major components.
- Perform oil changes, rigging, and operate boats and equipment.
- Construct upholstery and canvas products, including pattern-making, material cutting, cost estimation, and sewing machine operation.
- Install finished upholstery and canvas products.
- Manage inventory control, minor equipment repair, and customer relations.
- Repair and repaint defects in fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and cabins using hand and power tools.
- Select and prepare materials for fiberglass repair, painting, and recoating.
- Mix resin with catalyst for temperature ranges, ensure proper lay-up for strength, and match gel coat and paint.
- Perform welding repairs on stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel, ensuring welds pass pressure tests.
- Assist with construction projects as needed.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including proper lifting, bending, and carrying techniques.
- Understand machinery, equipment, and chemicals used, and follow MSDS guidelines.
Requirements
- Strong English communication skills.
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- Willingness to participate in random drug/alcohol testing.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) history check.
