About the role
The Boat Mechanic II performs a variety of duties including fiberglass repair (level 2), marine mechanics (level 2), upholstery, general maintenance, and welding (level 2). The employee must be flexible, willing to assist wherever needed, comfortable working outdoors in extreme heat, and committed to delivering the highest quality of work.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and a pleasant atmosphere in the dock and work area
- Perform repairs and maintenance on boats, buildings, docks, engines, electrical systems, plumbing, countertops, paneling, carpentry, painting, carpeting, and other structures
- Troubleshoot and repair major boat components
- Perform oil changes, rigging, and operate boats and equipment
- Construct upholstery and canvas products, including pattern-making, material cutting, cost estimation, sewing machine operation, and installation of finished products
- Manage inventory control, minor equipment repair, and customer relations
- Repair and repaint fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and cabins using hand and power tools
- Select and prepare materials for fiberglass repair, mix resin with catalyst for temperature ranges, ensure proper lay-up for strength, and match gel coat and paint
- Perform welding repairs on stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel, ensuring welds pass pressure tests
- Assist with construction projects as needed
- Adhere to safety protocols, including proper lifting, bending, and carrying techniques
- Understand machinery, equipment, and chemicals used, and consult MSDS sheets as needed
- Identify and address maintenance and safety issues promptly
- Work independently with honesty, dependability, and integrity
- Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to assist others
- Provide exceptional customer service to guests, representing Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas positively
- Remain flexible to work a varied schedule and report to work in proper uniform
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Strong English communication skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Willingness to participate in random drug/alcohol testing
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) history check
