About the organization

Post Conviction Project, Inc. (PCP) is a Florida Supreme Court-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to post-conviction litigation, direct appeals, and reentry support for individuals impacted by the criminal justice system. To our knowledge, we are the only FLSC-approved criminal defense legal aid organization dedicated solely to post-conviction relief and criminal appeals.

In Florida, many justice-impacted individuals lack access to post-conviction legal representation and the support necessary for successful reentry. Wrongful convictions, excessive sentences, and due process violations often go unchallenged because individuals cannot afford skilled legal counsel after conviction. Even after release, formerly incarcerated people face significant barriers to employment, financial stability, and basic life skills, increasing the risk of recidivism and limiting opportunities for long-term success. These gaps undermine fairness, public safety, and community stability. Without intervention, individuals are left without the tools to assert their legal rights or rebuild their lives.

Post Conviction Project Inc. addresses this critical need by combining post-conviction legal advocacy with reentry services, ensuring that justice extends beyond conviction and that returning citizens have a meaningful opportunity to succeed.

About the role

PCP is expanding its Board of Directors and is looking to fill 1-3 seats. We're driven by a passion for justice, the rule of law, and the belief that most people deserve a second chance. We believe justice doesn't end at conviction and that justice shouldn't mean "just us." Our work is rooted in justice reform, reducing recidivism, and helping people rebuild their lives after the system has failed them.

What to expect

• Quarterly board meetings — held virtually via video chat, so anyone, anywhere can serve
• Occasional committee input between meetings
• A voice in shaping the direction of a growing statewide legal aid organization

Desired backgrounds

• Mental health, trauma-informed care, or clinical psychology
• Human Resources experience
• Finance/accounting (any level — CPAs, controllers, bookkeepers)
• Retired Judiciary
• Grant writing and development
