BMT Oncology Nurse Manager
About the Role
As the BMT/Hematology (3 North Sarah Cannon) Nurse Manager, you will ensure high quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the overall daily function and staffing of the unit/department. The Manager monitors and evaluates the provision of nursing care in accordance with established policies/procedures and holds staff accountable for quality and clinical outcomes in support of facility objectives.
Responsibilities
- Help create a superior clinical identity by operationalizing evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes, while ensuring adherence to standards of care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served.
- Manage all staffing needs and personnel management including interviewing, hiring, and training new staff members.
- Oversee care of patients on the unit, providing consistent support and expertise to staff.
- Perform duties in accordance with unit-specific standards of care and evidenced by completion of a competency skills checklist.
- Maintain overall workflow of the unit by ensuring proper staff levels.
- Manage and coordinate all unit activities including safety procedures, unit goals, and department operations.
- Handle patient, visitor, or physician complaints promptly and in a professional manner.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and counseling to department employees.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and departments to improve patient care delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required (or must be obtained within 2 years of hire); Master’s in Nursing preferred.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Tennessee or compact state required.
- Minimum 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience required; 4 years of related clinical experience strongly preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
- Certification in area of specialty (OCN or BMTCN) preferred.
- ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification preferred at hire or within 1 year of hire.
