Blood Donor Technician 1

About the role

Responsible for performing accurate and complete pre-donor health histories to determine donor eligibility. Displays excellent phlebotomy skills during in-center operations and on mobile blood drives.

Responsibilities

• Performs donor screening and blood collection procedures in a professional and diligent manner.
• Ensures adequate inventory levels by preparing and submitting customized requisitions for supplies and equipment, verifying receipt and disbursement of ordered supplies, and ensuring proper completion of requisitions.
• Calls blood donors as needed.
• Determines blood donor eligibility by performing related testing, evaluating donor/patient medical history, assisting physicians with special tests and procedures, recruiting blood donors, and completing appropriate records pertaining to donations while ensuring donor confidentiality.
• Participates in mobile and in-house blood bank operations.
• Assists in the preparation of blood components.
• Combines ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory in decision-making processes and performance of procedures.
• Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances, especially those not covered by written or verbal instructions, in a way that promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption.
• Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and other individuals.
• Coordinates, plans, and utilizes time efficiently to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet the needs of laboratory service customers.
• Maintains an inventory of supplies in work areas and requests and orders supplies as necessary to ensure efficient operations and avoid duplication of effort.
• Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• BLS Certification
