Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of medical technologists, technicians, and laboratory assistants in the blood bank.
- Oversee the testing of blood donations for ABO blood group, Rh factor, and infectious diseases.
- Ensure blood products are properly labeled, stored, and maintained in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage blood inventory levels and ensure proper rotation of blood products.
- Collaborate with physicians and medical staff to ensure timely and accurate blood product availability.
- Implement and monitor quality control programs to ensure compliance with FDA, AABB, and other regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all blood product testing, processing, and distribution.
- Ensure all staff follow infection control and safety protocols in blood collection, handling, and storage.
- Assist with the development and implementation of training programs for laboratory staff.
- Perform periodic audits and prepare for regulatory inspections.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
- Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through ASCP or an equivalent accrediting body.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a blood bank or clinical laboratory setting, with at least 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of FDA, AABB, and CLIA regulations and standards.
- Certification in Blood Banking (BB or SBB) preferred.

- In-depth knowledge of blood bank operations, transfusion medicine, and laboratory testing procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in ensuring accurate blood product testing and record-keeping.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to urgent medical situations.
- Strong communication skills to interact with medical staff, patients, and laboratory personnel.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
