Position Summary
Level 1 Blast Operators, under direct supervision, will perform a variety of simple blasting techniques and methods using various types of blasting media such as aluminum oxide, glass bead, and plastic media, to effectively clean and prepare surfaces for future processes.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Reviewing and assimilating work instructions relating to cleaning, masking, and abrasive blasting operations.
- Performing receiving inspections (before processing) as needed and immediately reporting any damage or discrepancy.
- Abrasive blasting production parts and hardware using Aluminum Oxide, Plastic Media, and Glass Beads.
- Gathering supplies such as racks, tooling, baskets, carts (etc).
- Oiling and/or packaging of parts for protection.
- Masking parts according to work instructions.
- Cleaning of production parts which include degreasing or manual solvent cleaning.
- Routine blast cabinet/machine maintenance.
- Using personal protective equipment (PPE) during certain tasks (goggles, safety glasses, aprons, boots, gloves, hearing protection, etc) and complying with safety directives and policy.
- Exposure to chemicals/solvents, occasional fumes, and moderate noise level.
- Heavy lifting or use of mechanical hoist for the aid in lifting objects.
- Working closely with area leadership to complete work and prioritize tasks.
- Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining work area as prescribed by supervision.
- Completing documentation, counting of production parts, computer scanning, packaging to protect and transport, and other assigned tasks.
Required Skills
- Basic mathematic skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods with limited movement.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work alone or as a member of a team, good cooperative skills.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Specifically, applicants must be able to read and understand written procedures and instructions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment with multiple priorities.
Required Experience
- 0 – 1 years’ experience in General Labor.
Level Of Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- No exposure to adverse working conditions.
- No hazard exposure to hazardous materials.
- Sedentary (continuous sitting) work.
- Light Work (standing, walking, lifting) work occasionally.
- Moderate Work (lifting 15-30 pounds, prolonged use of small hand instruments or tools) work frequently.
- Heavy/Hard Work (above average strength & stamina) work occasionally.
