About the role
This position is responsible for the collection of all biotechnology samples for the genetic gain of pedigree chickens. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples from Pedigree birds to monitor bird health and diseases (25%)
- Clean and sanitize sampling and blood testing instruments (15%)
- Perform simple math as part of recording information according to instructions for sampling of pedigree chickens (50%)
- Move birds as required to other houses per house schedule
- Clean and disinfect the equipment and vehicles used in moving birds, supplies, or equipment on the farm
- Help laundry staff as needed
- Properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy
- Off-farm shopping for supplies
- May travel to various farms for training and implementation of procedures when studies are being done with duration of 1 week at a time expected (10%)
Requirements
- Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (employment gap extended to 18 months for layoffs or child/elder care)
- Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months
- Rehire criteria: minimum waiting period of 180 days and no more than 3 previous employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview
- Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with any avian species
- Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines
Biosecurity & Animal Welfare
- The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility (appropriate clothing and footwear provided by the Company)
- No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing
Physical Demands
- Must use safe lifting techniques
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 250 pounds with assistance or tools (e.g., pallet jack)
- Regularly required to stand for the majority of the shift on concrete floors, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects and controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, climb ladders, stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day, talk or hear, and drive a vehicle within the farm complex
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
- Work on wet, slippery surfaces
- Work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy, and cold environments
- Exposure to disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Lysol, etc.
Tools & Equipment
- Tablet, Scanner, Pipette, Syringes, Vehicle, Pressure Washer
Personal Protective Equipment
- Safety goggles, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, rubber boots
- Ear plugs as required
- NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators as needed
Safety
Team members are expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, and Personal Protective Equipment. Team members must identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks.
Schedule
- Tuesday through Friday, 5:00 AM – 3:00 PM (including holidays)
- Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs
Pay
Starting pay: $19.05 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights, and weekends.
