About the role
Axle is seeking a Biosafety Level Four Laboratory Scientist to join our team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the Clinical Center (CC) located in Bethesda, MD. The purpose of this position is to support research in the Clinical Center and NIAID biosafety level 4 laboratory, including translational studies of emerging viral pathogens.
Responsibilities
- Conduct translational human and animal research on pathogenesis and treatment of high-consequence emerging viral infections (e.g., Ebola, Nipah virus).
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings.
- Coordinate the work of biological technicians, technologists, and other scientists.
- Develop and maintain proficiency working safely and effectively in a biosafety level four laboratory environment.
- Provide technical experience to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life.
- Assist with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain various lab samples, supplies, and equipment.
- Establish and maintain accurate, reliable sample inventory.
- Learn new laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Implement existing and assimilate new assays and techniques related to virology and immunology.
- Meet with lab members weekly to present updates.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Microbiology or a related field.
- Prior experience working in biosafety level 4 labs conducting virology and immunology assays.
- Familiarity with specimen storage and accountability.
- Skills in immunology assays and basic and molecular virology.

Pay
This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range of $70,000 USD - $77,000 USD. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
