Biometrics (Fingerprint) Technician - On Call

About the role
As a Biometric Technician (BT), you will support the mission of a government program located in Tampa, FL. This position works as part of a dynamic team assisting the United States Citizenship and Immigration (USCIS) Application Support Center (ASC) operations. Amentum provides all required job training for qualified candidates.
This is an on-call (casual) team member position. On-call employees are expected to be available all five days, Monday through Friday from the hours of 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM for substitute coverage as needed at the site. This is not a regular full-time or part-time position. All efforts are made to notify on-call personnel in advance, though occasionally employees may be notified the night before or day of. Hours are not guaranteed, and employees are engaged on an "as needed" basis, so a steady income stream cannot be guaranteed. This role is ideal for candidates with flexibility seeking supplemental income or those who want to remain active in a work environment without a committed schedule.
Responsibilities
- Complete biometrics registration for applicants seeking legal immigration to the United States.
- Ensure all who enter the ASC are approved applicants and visitors while providing both interior and exterior crowd control and assisting staff in enforcing ASC rules and policies.
- Provide front-line customer service as representatives of Amentum and on behalf of the United States Government, ensuring applicants receive the highest level of service with sensitivity, courtesy, and respect.
- Safeguard all areas where Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is vulnerable, including applicant paperwork, identifications, electronic biometric data, and reports.
- Perform quality biometrics processing, including capturing electronic fingerprints, photographs, and signatures within established processing times.
- Screen applicants entering the facility to ensure they have a valid appointment notice and identification.
- Utilize crowd control barriers (stanchions or rails) to ensure safe and organized entry into the facility.
- Visually inspect applicants and their belongings prior to allowing entry into the facility.
- During national pandemics or health crises, ask applicants questions about their health status and decline entry per customer requirements.
- Conduct periodic facility checks (interior and exterior) and report concerns to the Site Supervisor.
- Assist the Site Supervisor and/or government Immigration Service Officer in calling local law enforcement or first responders when necessary.
- Manage and complete administrative paperwork accurately, including tracking processing times, reconciling biometrics captured, maintaining visitor control logs, and signing off on facility checks.
Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (US Citizenship is required for facility credentials at this work location).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to speak and write in English.
- Ability to stand upright for the duration of the scheduled shift, excluding meals and breaks.
- Ability to hold and grasp applicants’ hands to obtain quality fingerprints.
- Ability to work in a high-paced environment with the public.
- Basic computer skills, including typing.
- Successful completion of biometrics training and certification within sixty days.
Skills
- Ability to speak a foreign language (desired).
Pay
$17.75 per hour. The compensation range or hourly rate listed is a good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
