Location: Durham, NH – Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, 89 Depot Rd, Greenland NH 03840

Full-time, 37.5 hours weekly. Position is subject to renewal every 2 years.

About the role

Collect and analyze vegetation, wildlife, fish, and water-quality data through field and laboratory work to determine short- and long-term changes in conditions at the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Responsibilities

• Prepare progress reports and data reports for state and federal agency partners and project funders.
• Conduct field research and biological investigations in estuarine habitats such as saltmarshes, eelgrass beds, oyster beds, mudflats, rocky intertidal, and upland edge.
• Coordinate and operate field-monitoring programs, including sampling, compiling and analyzing data, and writing reports on estuarine habitats, water quality, and species.
• Develop and implement long-range management plans.
• Confer with interested parties to address conservation needs of Great Bay estuarine habitats and collaborate on management, restoration, and monitoring plans.
• Represent New Hampshire Fish and Game and the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve at public gatherings and official meetings.
• Respond to requests for technical assistance from the public, agencies, academia, and partners in areas such as field sampling, habitat assessments, and restoration planning.
• Assist Reserve staff in implementing GBNERR fellowships and internships, mentor students, and support volunteers.
• Maintain and supervise the upkeep of GBNERR equipment, supplies, facilities, and operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 1.5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of 5.5 years of education and experience after high school.
• Education and experience must be in wildlife, fisheries, coastal ecology, or a related field.
• Valid driver’s license; Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet agency standards.
• Ability to conduct physical tasks and work outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in coastal environments, including from a boat.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of species and habitats common to coastal New Hampshire.
• Ability to operate equipment needed to conduct field research.
• Excellent verbal and written presentation skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work with databases.
• Ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences.

Pay

$25.40 – $34.14 per hour.
