Position Overview

About the Role

The Biologist I position involves undertaking multiple project responsibilities, including field direction and project management, with little supervisory oversight. Responsibilities include preparing environmental documents, coordinating with agencies, and conducting both fieldwork and office duties.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake complex projects independently and efficiently.
  • Prepare and review technical and cost proposals.
  • Manage assigned personnel, conduct performance reviews, and establish safety guidelines.
  • Initiate, conduct, and manage project tasks, including field surveys and reporting.
  • Develop innovative approaches to regulatory compliance and maintain scientific integrity.
  • Delegate and oversee fieldwork, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with safety plans.
  • Communicate with clients and agencies, coordinate project requirements, and manage project schedules.
  • Take on a leadership role, set examples for junior staff, and continue professional development.

Requirements

  • Minimum education: Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, environmental science, ecological restoration, natural resource planning, or similar discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience, with preference for Colorado-based experience.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, Adobe Acrobat, digital data entry, and effective communication and organization.
  • Physical requirements: Physically capable of performing fieldwork in rugged terrain, lifting up to 50 pounds, and engaging in strenuous activities.

Qualifications

  • Effectively communicate and delegate tasks for complex projects.
  • Independently prepare reports and scopes for complex projects.
  • Meet deadlines and targets, communicate early if unable to meet targets, and have strong relationships with clients and agencies.
  • Understand and communicate regulations to agencies and clients.
  • Participate in professional development and trainings.
  • Market and interact with clients, attend marketing events and conferences, and prepare scopes and proposal documents.
  • Manage assigned personnel, conduct performance reviews, and establish safety guidelines.
  • Manage budgets and deadlines for projects, initiate and conduct project tasks, and ensure scientific and regulatory integrity.
  • Lead field crews, verify compliance with safety plans, and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Complete regulatory documents independently, thoroughly, within schedule, and within budget.
  • Communicate with clients and agencies, coordinate project requirements, and manage project schedules.
  • Take on a leadership role, set examples for junior staff, and continue professional development.

Benefits

This position is based in an ERO designated office with an option for a hybrid work schedule based on employee performance, business needs, field work, and client needs. Pay

The range for this position is $70,000 - $95,000.

Schedule

This position may require greater than 40 hours per week at times of the year and may require weekend work based on project schedules. Overnight travel may be required.
