Biologist

Actalent is seeking an entry-level Controlled Environment Biologist to study plant life and the effects of environmental and physical conditions on row crops such as canola, corn, cotton, and soybeans in greenhouse and growth chamber settings.

About the role

The candidate will work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in plant biology, applying creativity and limited experience to plan and accomplish goals. The position involves hands-on work in controlled environments, including rotational weekend shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Sow seeds and manage plant care.
• Discard non-viable plants and maintain cleanliness.
• Transplant, harvest, and process seeds.
• Stand for long periods and work in elevated temperatures in greenhouses during warmer months.
• Perform rotational weekend work as required.

Requirements

• Experience in controlled environments and plant cultivation.
• Proficiency in greenhouse operations.
• Knowledge of plant care, maintenance, propagation, and irrigation.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work in elevated temperatures.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in agronomy, biology, horticulture, or other life sciences.
• Commercial greenhouse experience is preferred.

Work Environment

This fully onsite role is based in Chesterfield, MO, and primarily takes place in greenhouse and growth chamber settings. Exposure to elevated temperatures during warmer months is expected.

Pay

$24.00/hour.
