About the role

Phelps Health is a 2000-employee-strong hospital and healthcare system serving the heart of small-town Missouri. The Bio-Med Engineering Technician works independently on repairs, safety testing, and preventive maintenance of general clinical equipment, maintains equipment records, writes reports, and coordinates outside repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, calibrates, and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation used in healthcare delivery.
  • Inspects and installs medical and related technical equipment for use by clinicians involved in researching, monitoring, diagnosing, and treating physical ailments.
  • Safety-tests medical equipment and the healthcare facility's structural environment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
  • Utilizes the biomedical software system to maintain records of work performed according to policy and procedure.
  • Follows policies and procedures related to ordering replacement parts and other purchase services.
  • Communicates effectively with vendors who provide services to ensure proper and timely outcomes.
  • Provides follow-up communications to equipment users related to repair and maintenance statuses.
  • Participates or conducts training in-service programs on the use of equipment for equipment users.
  • Cross-trains learned skills to other bio-med technicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience, including a diploma program (e.g., Military Training, Technical school), preferred.
  • Three to five years of biomedical experience preferred.
  • CBET-Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician preferred.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, squat, kneel, and lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Good eyesight and a steady hand.
  • Ability to perform under stress.

Working Conditions

  • May come in contact with patients.
  • Will encounter unpleasant conditions and exposure to heat, cold, noise, dirt, inclement weather, chemicals, gases, water, fumes, overhead pipes, infectious disease, or hazardous waste.
  • Some overnight travel may be required for training purposes.
