About the role
This role supports the billing team by promoting consistency, assisting with staff training, and serving as a resource for questions related to billing procedures, policies, and workflow. The Billing Team Lead is expected to maintain personal production responsibilities while contributing to team cohesion, morale, and process improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage the status of unbilled claims
- Perform all necessary actions to ensure claims are entered timely and accurately
- Motivate billing team to achieve weekly goals
- Liaison with colleagues across departments
- Stay current with payor regulations
- Train and mentor new employees
- Ensure compliance of payors and HIPAA laws
- Maintain a flexible schedule to be available for questions or issues that arise daily
- Perform routine billing duties
Requirements
- Ability to support a cohesive team environment and contribute to positive employee morale
- Skill in assisting with training and onboarding of billing staff to maintain accuracy and consistency
- Capacity to encourage and guide peers in meeting production and quality expectations
- Ability to balance personal billing workload with supporting team tasks and project assignments
- Effective multitasking and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced, high-volume setting
- Strong attention to detail, with a focus on compliant and accurate billing practices
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, sorting, and reporting billing data
- Ability to navigate billing and reporting systems to compile data for ad-hocs or routine reporting
- Prior experience in medical billing within an emergency or healthcare environment
- Reliable, self-directed work habits with a consistent record of achieving production goals
- Solid verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members and leadership
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years’ experience in medical billing, preferably in emergency medical services or a related healthcare setting
- Experience providing informal guidance or peer support within a billing team
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
