About the role
The Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in managing client invoices and supporting attorneys and legal staff with billing-related tasks. This position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Edit prebills to facilitate time and disbursement transfers, time splits, on account transfers, time adjustments, and disbursement adjustments.
- Print, sort, and distribute prebills to billing attorneys for review.
- Print drafts and/or finalized computerized invoices and forward them to attorneys for further edits.
- Maintain client billing addresses, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of information.
- Enter exemptions for billing necessary by the billing cutoff date and monitor their status through month-end.
- Manage and approve write-offs and monthly exemptions for billing.
- Input and update alternate rates in the computer system accurately and efficiently.
- Provide attorneys and legal support staff with requested billing statistics using Excel spreadsheets.
- Communicate effectively with attorneys to meet billing deadlines.
- Submit, process, and track invoices, resolving billing issues via electronic and web-based systems.
- Participate in monthly check-in meetings with the billing manager to update on Work in Progress and troubleshoot issues.
- Respond to internal and external client inquiries promptly and seek feedback as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of Law Firm Billing experience.
- Previous Aderant/CMS experience is preferred.
