About the role
The Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in managing client invoices and supporting attorneys, legal practice assistants, and clients. This position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Edit prebills to facilitate time and disbursement transfers, time splits, on account transfers, time adjustments, and disbursement adjustments.
- Print, sort, and distribute prebills for attorney review.
- Create drafts and finalize computerized invoices for attorneys' approval.
- Maintain and update client billing addresses, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Enter exemptions for billing and manage their status through month-end.
- Handle write-offs and monthly exemptions for billing, entering them accurately and promptly.
- Input and manage alternate rates in the computer system.
- Provide billing statistics and reports to attorneys and legal staff using Excel spreadsheets.
- Communicate with attorneys to meet billing deadlines and address any billing issues.
- Participate in monthly check-in meetings with the billing manager to discuss progress and resolve any issues.
- Respond to client inquiries and provide feedback as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of Law Firm Billing experience.
- Previous Aderant/CMS experience is highly preferred.
