About the Role

Klamath Basin Behavioral Health is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to support accurate, timely, and compliant billing operations. This role is responsible for claims submission, denial resolution, accounts receivable management, reimbursement follow-up, client billing support, and financial record maintenance across commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and client-pay accounts. The position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of medical billing processes, and the ability to work professionally with clients, insurance representatives, internal teams, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Submit and manage accurate, timely claims for commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and direct-pay accounts.
• Investigate and resolve denied, unpaid, and underpaid claims to maximize reimbursement.
• Process service authorizations and support timely reimbursement for approved services.
• Manage billing follow-up, collections, and denial resolution activities.
• Post payments, reconcile accounts, process refunds, and prepare client statements.
• Maintain accounts receivable aging reports and perform collection activities in accordance with agency policies.
• Support month-end billing and financial activities.
• Process financial assistance applications and verify eligibility.
• Respond to client billing inquiries with professionalism, empathy, and accuracy.
• Maintain accurate billing, reimbursement, collections, and financial records.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, payer, agency, and HIPAA requirements.
• Protect confidential client and organizational information.
• Communicate account status, reimbursement trends, and collection activities as needed.
• Participate in meetings, training, and professional development activities.
• Stay current on billing regulations, payer requirements, reimbursement practices, and industry changes.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives that enhance billing efficiency, service quality, and compliance.

Required Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of medical billing and reimbursement processes.
• Ability to manage billing, claims, accounts receivable, collections, and denial resolution activities.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with clients, coworkers, insurance representatives, and external partners.
• Ability to meet established productivity, quality, accuracy, compliance, and customer service standards.
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of medical billing and coding experience.
• Experience in behavioral health, mental health, substance use disorder treatment, community mental health, or psychiatric services.
• Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM coding, modifiers, service authorizations, and payer reimbursement requirements.
• Experience billing Oregon Medicaid behavioral health services.
• Experience billing Medicare mental health services.
• Knowledge of accounts receivable management and collections.
• Experience with healthcare reimbursement practices.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Experience working in a client-focused healthcare environment.
