Billing Specialist

About the role

The Billing Specialist oversees the accurate completion of the charge entry billing process to ensure the financial viability of the organization in accordance with State and Federal reimbursement guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Enter patient charges to corresponding patient accounts.
• Ensure accurate and timely charge entry for physician groups.
• Apply correct ICD-10 coding to ensure clean claims via electronic or paper submission.
• Work claim edits related to pre-billing errors, rejections, and clearinghouse errors.
• Assist with updating coverage on patient accounts.
• Be instrumental in the secondary claims filing process.
• Maintain utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
• Adhere to hospital policies and departmental procedures.
• Demonstrate business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
• Demonstrate an understanding of security and confidentiality of data and information.
• Maintain a calm, professional demeanor at all times.
• Effectively demonstrate DCH’s philosophy, values, and mission through interactions with others.
• Maintain and ensure confidentiality of patient records at all times.
• Monitor and notify supervisor of any billing rejection trends or system problems/issues immediately.
• Perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or hospital administration.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior experience working in a medical billing office.
• Experience working with Epic Software preferred.
