Overview
Foley & Lardner LLP is seeking a Billing Manager to lead their Litigation billing team. The Billing Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and enhancing the billing support model for the firm's clients and attorneys.
Responsibilities
- Build strong, credible relationships with attorneys, Department Chairs, practice leadership, and key administrative support teams to understand business needs and deliver high-quality billing support aligned with department goals.
- Develop and implement a long-term billing support structure for the practice that ensures consistency, scalability, responsiveness, and strong attorney service across the firm.
- Lead the development of a proactive billing support model that anticipates attorney and client needs, identifies risks or service gaps early, and implements solutions before issues escalate.
- Partner with the Billing Operations Manager to create clear training protocols and onboarding processes for new billers to ensure consistency in service delivery, technical knowledge, and understanding of attorney and client expectations.
- Serve as a strategic resource and subject matter expert for pro forma implementation and related billing technologies to ensure tools are optimized for the needs of partners, attorneys, and clients.
- Proactively monitor team performance, service levels, and operational trends, making recommendations and adjustments as needed to ensure long-term success and continuous improvement.
- Understand the firm’s clients, partner billing preferences, billing guidelines, and practice-specific requirements in order to establish effective and sustainable billing workflows.
- Establish, document, and continuously refine policies, procedures, and best practices for all clients with an emphasis on efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and client service.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing and agile billing team that can adapt quickly to changing workloads, client demands, and departmental priorities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, workflow redesign, and organizational enhancements that strengthen support for attorneys, improve client service, and increase team effectiveness.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field desired
- Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience within the revenue cycle of a law firm
- Minimum of three (3) years in a people manager role within the revenue cycle of a law firm
- Prior 3E experience strongly desired
- Experience supporting complex billing structures in a large law firm environment desired
- Deep understanding of legal billing and collection processes, including the ability to implement process improvements and organizational changes
- Demonstrated ability to lead proactively, identify issues before they become problems, and implement thoughtful solutions
- Ability to balance competing priorities, respond effectively to changing business needs, and maintain a high standard of service and accuracy in a dynamic environment
