About the role

At Uvalde Memorial Hospital, you'll play a key role in supporting patients by ensuring their billing questions are answered and their balances are managed with care and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient accounts to identify self-pay balances after insurance payments and adjustments.
  • Generate and upload daily statement files to ensure patients receive timely and accurate billing.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors on early-out collections and monitor communication efforts.
  • Manage bad debt workflows, agency placements, and respond to account inquiries.
  • Process incoming patient payments and assist patients in setting up payment plans.
  • Make outbound calls and answer billing-related questions with professionalism and empathy.
  • Work closely with Financial Counselors, Customer Service, and Revenue Cycle teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all account actions, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies.
  • Support month-end reporting, audits, and process improvements.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in hospital or clinic billing (self-pay or customer service preferred).
  • Familiarity with medical billing procedures, EOBs, and patient responsibility processes is a plus.
  • Proficiency in billing software, EHR systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with a focus on empathy and problem-solving.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Qualifications
