Bilingual Safety, Health and Environment Manager

Responsible for the environmental, health, and safety performance in assigned facilities, creating an injury-free and environmentally sustainable workplace. Serves as a subject matter expert, partnering with the Corporate S&E representative to implement risk-based prevention programs in health, safety, and environmental areas to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries. Ensures plant-level initiatives align with corporate Safety & Environmental strategy, goals, and standards, and partners with production and HR teams to foster a behavior-based safety culture. Ensures environmental regulatory compliance at all assigned locations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and promote safety systems, policies, procedures, campaigns, and programs to eliminate or control hazards and foster a safety culture.
  • Act as an advisor to facilities, providing technical assistance for compliance with regulatory and company S&E requirements.
  • Implement and sustain S&E programs by ensuring resources, tools, and knowledge are available.
  • Partner with Corporate S&E to develop, integrate, and execute corporate and business unit S&E strategies, policies, and standards.
  • Develop and align short- and long-term action plans, projects, and goals balancing corporate objectives, business needs, and operations.
  • Provide tactical direction and standardization for S&E programs and initiatives across sites.
  • Assess, prevent, and manage S&E risks from operations, incidents, and business affairs; conduct inspections, investigations, and trend analyses.
  • Lead agency interactions, permitting, enforcement actions, and technical/engineering support for S&E issues.
  • Conduct shop floor inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements; collaborate on corrective measures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with S&E, sustainability, and business strategies; promote shared learning of best practices.
  • Coach and mentor facility S&E professionals and support hiring of site-level personnel.
  • Interpret S&E regulations and implement company-wide standards, procedures, or programs.
  • Provide technical guidance, regulatory advice, and training to employees, facility management, and division management.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, compliance deviations, and enforcement actions to ensure corrective measures are taken.
  • Lead or participate in corporate S&E compliance audits.
  • Verify SQF controls and meet SWF requirements.
  • Actively participate in the HACCP committee to maintain SQF system integrity and communicate essential information.
  • Model the Mondi Diamond values for the team.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental engineering, occupational safety, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of environmental or safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Advanced certification in environmental, health, safety, or related field (e.g., CSHO, OSHT, CET, CHMM, ASP, CSP) is a plus.
  • Completion of OSHA 511 and 501 courses.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements (e.g., CAA, NESHP, SPCC, SARA, RCRA, DOT).
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and resolve challenges.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational needs and lead, motivate, and influence others.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to develop and conduct training on complex topics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with people at various organizational levels.
  • Broad understanding of business issues, metrics, organizational linkages, and customer value.
  • Self-confidence and ability to accept and respond to challenges positively.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Ability to travel at least 10% of the time, locally and/or domestically.
