Bilingual Medical Assistant
Hourly position in Clinical Services.
About the role
The Medical Assistant performs clinical duties as defined by state law, including taking medical histories, recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the provider during examinations. May receive direction from an MD, mid-level provider, RN, LPN, or assigned supervisor. Administrative duties include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient medical records, scheduling appointments, handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping.
Clinical duties may also involve instructing patients about medication and special diets, preparing and administering medications, and drawing blood.
Responsibilities
- Fulfill patient care responsibilities within the MA scope of practice, such as vital signs, procedures, and patient education.
- Assist patients in navigating care through the encounter process to minimize ambiguity.
- Accurately document all aspects of patient encounters required for job functions.
- Track and document closed-loop communication with patients, including labs, return calls, and refills.
- Communicate with external and internal parties to facilitate continuity of care.
- Complete supportive assignments on time and unprompted, such as performing controls, instrument maintenance, infection control, ordering, sorting, storing supplies, and restocking.
- Provide patient teaching and care plan support.
- Guard patient privacy and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
- Actively participate in quality improvement (QI) activities.
- Participate in staff meetings as required.
- Complete annual competencies within the required timeframe.
- Communicate effectively in English, both in person and in writing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 year of related work experience preferred or on-the-job training (OJT) for 2 or more years.
- Certification as RMA, CMA, or CCMA required.
- BLS/CPR certification required.
