Bilingual Assistant Program Director - JOR

About the role

The Assistant Program Director for NYAP’s La Jornada (The Journey) Program focusing on Long-Term Foster Care (LTFC) will assist the Program Director in delivering LTFC services to unaccompanied minors transferred from ORR shelters, transitional foster care, or specialty ORR programs. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, or a related field, five years of progressive experience in social services or childcare, and two years of experience in an administrative or supervisory role. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory. Essential qualifications include a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proficiency in using computers and software.

Responsibilities

• Performing all work consistent with NYAP’s mission, values, and philosophies
• Advocating for minors and youth service systems through individual and systems advocacy
• Providing supervision, guidance, and consultation to the Lead Case Manager and other managers
• Promoting, encouraging, and assisting the case management team, directly supervising the development of innovative programs and special projects
• Serving as a liaison between the Program Director, case management team, and ORR staff
• Conducting program evaluation and data analysis activities to assess the effectiveness of agency services
• Preparing reports on agency licensure, regulatory, and compliance reviews
• Planning and coordinating statewide functions, including trainings and conferences
• Aiding in program development activities, including referral agency contacts
• Presenting at least one workshop at a national or statewide conference on Foster Care and advocacy

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, or a related field
• Five (5) years of progressive experience in social services or childcare agency or organization
• Two (2) years of experience in an administrative and/or supervisory role in youth services
• Bilingual English/Spanish fluency is required
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, automotive insurance, and a good driving record
• Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, internet search, people management programs, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines, and software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs
• Excellent internal and external customer service focused on caring for people, connecting communities, and promoting peace
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
• A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours with a possibility of being on call on nights/weekends
• Ability to organize, navigate, and physically escort youth to various travel destinations possibly including airlines, trains, and buses
• Travel includes out-of-state trips up to 25%-30% to unify youth with families
• Ability to embrace working as a diverse team both effectively and respectfully with persons of any background, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, ability, national origin, or culture
• Good verbal, listening, and written communication skills
