About the Role

The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University invites applications for the Beverly Petterson Bishop Professorship in Neuroscience, a tenured and endowed position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will establish a research laboratory in the Biology Department’s Life Sciences Complex, become a leader and highly collaborative member of Syracuse University’s Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, and contribute to the program’s cross‑unit research initiatives spanning molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, behavioral, and cognitive neuroscience.

Responsibilities

• Teach two courses per year (1:1 load) with a commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentoring.
• Develop and maintain an externally funded, high‑impact research program in neuroscience.
• Establish and manage a research laboratory within the Biology Department.
• Collaborate extensively with faculty in the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, the Aging Studies Institute, the BioInspired Institute, and neighboring SUNY Upstate Medical University.
• Provide service to the department, university, and professional community.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of rigorous, externally funded research and a strong publication history.
• Commitment to high‑quality teaching and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students.

Skills and Knowledge

• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: cell and molecular neurobiology, biology of aging and neurodegeneration, behavioral and systems neuroscience, neurological disease modeling, or developmental neurobiology.
• Ability to integrate molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, behavioral, and cognitive approaches to address basic, pre‑clinical, translational, and clinical neuroscience questions.
• Strong collaborative skills to work across multiple units and institutes.

Pay

Assistant Professor: $125,000 – $140,000; Professor: $140,000 – $180,000 (full‑time).
