Assistant Professor of Neuroscience
About the role
The Neuroscience Program at Carleton College invites applications for a tenure-track position, to begin September 1, 2027, at the rank of assistant professor. We welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in neuroscience or a related field, particularly those with expertise in electrophysiology.
Responsibilities
- Shared teaching of Foundations in Neuroscience with accompanying laboratory
- An upper-level Neurobiology course with accompanying laboratory
- A seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise
Requirements
- A completed Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field with postdoctoral experience is preferred, but applications from candidates who will complete their Ph.D. by September 2027 will be considered.
- A strong commitment to teaching and research with undergraduate students in a liberal arts environment.
- A demonstrated ability to develop an active research program that engages Carleton undergraduates in scholarly contributions to their subfield.

Benefits
The College offers support for faculty research programs, including research facilities, student stipends and support for grant writing. In addition, support for all aspects of faculty work is provided by a college mentoring program, cohort activities for new faculty, Provost Office support, and extensive optional programming by our Perlman Center for Learning and Teaching.
Pay
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $87,480 - $93,290. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
Schedule
The typical teaching load is five courses spread over our three 10-week terms per year.

The Neuroscience Program at Carleton College is jointly administered by faculty in Neuroscience, Biology and Psychology. We are housed in Carleton’s Integrated Science center with state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories and equipment.
