BESS O&M Technician
Brief Description
CAMS Renewable Services LLC is hiring a Battery Storage System (BESS) Technician with knowledge of electrical systems, sub-station maintenance, and grid scale battery energy storage system (BESS) space. Our BOP Technician will be responsible for performing substation preventative maintenance, troubleshooting HV systems, and preparing and submitting quality reports on site conditions in the Ft Stockton, TX area. Must have an excellent work ethic, good communication and documentation skills.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Safety First Mindset: Perform all work in a safe manner and in compliance with company safety policies.
- Site Management (Roads, Signage, Vegetation, etc.): Managing the inspections, records, outages (planned and unplanned).
- Monthly Reporting: On-Site Support during associated site BESS Construction & Commissioning.
- Substation and Medium Voltage Equipment Inspections: Performing a variety of other high voltage electrical work including managing and executing outages to support construction activities on the base.
- Occasionally participate in the corrective maintenance of AC distribution and BESS systems/components, as directed by supervisor with minimal supervision.
- Receive, execute and complete daily work orders in a timely fashion, planning each workday carefully to achieve all objectives within a normal 8-hour work period and without incurring overtime; a workload manager will provide background information about any anomalies or unusual circumstances pertaining to each work order, and they will also inspect the completed work daily to ensure proper quality.
- Participate in special projects such as pre-commissioning/checkout of new substations, stage additions, or substation inspections, and commissioning preparation.
- Must comply with safe clearance procedures and all related safety rules and regulations; must consistently and properly always wear correct High Voltage Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required for safe work.
- Participate diplomatically in meetings with regulatory inspectors, and representatives of other companies.
- Perform all work in a safe manner in compliance with company safety policy. Responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of components. Perform electrical testing using appropriate PPE and procedures. Prepare reports, if needed to comply with deliverables in O&M contracts. Help in all areas of preventative and corrective maintenance as directed by supervisor with minimal supervision.
- Attend training sessions on equipment provided by the manufacturer and approved by management.
- In the performance of duties, use equipment and resources in accordance with instructions provided by the company.
- Maintain adherence to Company policies, quality, environmental health and safety policies and good housekeeping practices.
- Up to 20% overnight US travel
Requirements
- Electrical Technology Diploma or commensurate experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience Substations (gas circuit breakers, air switches)
- Texas electrical license is desired but not required
- NFPA 70E, Sub Station Maintenance training certification
- Must be able to commute to the project site near Ft. Stockton, TX daily
- Must have flexibility to work during weekends and be always available on call
- Thermal Scans & Oil Sampling
- Operate test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power quality meters, insulation resistance testers, high potential testers, phase sticks, phase rotation meters, digital test equipment, other electrical test equipment, and cable locating and fault-finding equipment as needed daily
- Perform routine installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of equipment in high voltage switchyards, substations, and power operations centers.
- OSHA 10 - General Industry or Construction Certified and CPR certified before starting work; CAMS may provide financial assistance for these courses if necessary.
- Ability to perform regular and recurring field inspections, investigations, or surveys in which there is a considerable amount of physical activity including walking, stooping, bending, and climbing.
- Obtain fluid analysis from oil filled transformers for standard chemical and electrical property analysis in accordance with ASTM guidelines.
- Construction/installation/maintenance of cable tray, high voltage cable terminations, ground grids, underground duct banks and control wiring for various electrical equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, procedures, and regulations.
- Experience in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems preferred but related applicable experience is acceptable.
- Good organization, communication, analytical, planning, time management, and customer service skills.
- Competent skills using Microsoft office applications like Outlook, Excel, Word
