BESS Maintenance Specialist- Solar
About the role
The Maintenance Specialist - Battery & Energy Storage System (BESS) supports the development, implementation, and administration of cost-effective operations for Tampa Electric's commercial and utility-scale BESS facilities. This role also provides maintenance support for other solar facilities. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting, performing PM strategies, and maintaining a reliability predictive modeling tool.
Responsibilities
- Lead troubleshooting and repairs for BESS system equipment. Document all PM strategies and support BESS and solar facility inspections, monitoring, and testing.
- Support BESS system startup and commissioning, ensuring quality control and adherence to TECO standards. Assist with test procedure documentation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive data collection and predictive modeling tool for BESS facilities to optimize performance and reduce O&M costs.
- Track and analyze reliability metrics and facilitate system root cause analysis. Track resulting action plans to maintain system performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the BESS Engineer or performance coach.
Requirements
Required: Minimum of 5 years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position. Related experience includes maintenance of commercial and utility scale BESS systems, electrical system technologies, and implementation. College degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience of 2 years with an Associate’s degree and 3 years with a Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred: 5 years of related experience associated with utility scale BESS systems, electrical system technologies, and utility scale solar.
Skills
- A sound understanding of commercial and utility scale BESS and solar power generation, medium voltage systems, transmission, distribution or substation principals, and materials and their applications.
- Working knowledge of reliability centered maintenance practices, continuous improvement practices, and power generation practices used in electric utilities.
- Good project management skills, time management skills, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge with utility scale BESS systems, solar tracking systems and arrays, distributed controls systems, and SharePoint.

Storm Duty Requirements
Responding to storms is considered a condition of employment. Team members are required to participate in response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to TECO Energy customers. Compensation will be provided in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.
Working Conditions
Indoors/outdoors, irregular hours, overtime, and possible holidays. Must be able to work in dusty and hot environments, ascend/descend from ladders/stairs, walk (on uneven surfaces), bend, and drive as needed.
