Bereavement Counselor Hospice
About the role
Provides emotional support and counseling to individuals grieving the loss of a family member. Leads support groups to facilitate discussions and encourage expression of feelings in a safe environment. Contacts and assesses family members of deceased patients to identify their needs and offer support. Offers brief therapy focused on grief issues to help clients develop coping skills and support systems. Informs clients about available community resources to empower them to seek additional support. Provides individual and group support both in-office and in the field for hospice and community clients. Travels as needed to participate in support groups and social activities. Develops and conducts educational programs on bereavement for the community. Oversees volunteer calls and visits to bereaved families and documents these interactions. Prepares and conducts bereavement training programs for volunteers. Participates in interdisciplinary teamwork with healthcare professionals to address the needs of bereaved family members. Engages in community outreach efforts and develops presentations for various audiences.

Requirements
- Knowledge of counseling skills in the performance of duties in compliance with the legal and ethical parameters established and based on the level of education and certification attained by the employee.
- Knowledge of current counseling theories and practices.
- Knowledge of available resources related to bereavement and other counseling services.
- Knowledge of patient database system (i.e. Homeworks).
- Knowledge of basic to intermediate application of Microsoft Office Suite including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook as well as internet software.
- Ability to market and inform family members of Hospice of the Comforter patients and community members of bereavement counseling resources that can be provided by Hospice of the Comforter.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or related field.
- 3+ years experience in counseling/social work or bereavement.

Pay
$49,307.53 - $91,705.34
Schedule
Full time, Monday - Friday 8:30am- 5pm. 2 weekends/year for a special event.
