About the Role

The Benefits Specialist II is responsible for administering and supporting employee benefits programs, including leave management and new hire benefits enrollment. This role serves as a key resource for employees by ensuring efficient benefits processes, compliance with applicable policies and regulations, and effective collaboration with HR teams and benefits vendors. The position contributes to operational effectiveness by helping employees understand and maximize their available benefits while maintaining accurate records and supporting compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage leave of absence programs, including FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability, and company-sponsored leave policies, while ensuring regulatory and internal compliance.
  • Assist new employees with benefits selection during onboarding by providing guidance and answering questions.
  • Generate reports from HRIS and benefits systems to monitor benefits enrollment, leave usage, and compliance metrics.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits eligibility, claims, and coverage, escalating complex issues when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local benefits regulations, including ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
  • Coordinate with benefits vendors, payroll, and HR teams to resolve benefits-related issues and process enrollments and claims accurately and promptly.
  • Support HR operations through benefits audits, open enrollment planning, and cross-functional projects.
  • Educate employees about wellness programs, retirement plans, and available resources to maximize benefits utilization.
  • Assist with HR initiatives, including employee engagement, process improvements, and data integrity projects.
  • Plan and prioritize assigned work with guidance and oversight from management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or 2–4 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5–7 years of related experience preferred.
