Benefits Specialist

About the role

The Benefits Specialist assists with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and paid time off (PTO). This role manages leave administration and ensures compliance with federal regulations and legal mandates regarding healthcare benefits.

Responsibilities

• Help employees enroll in the various benefit programs for which they are entitled as needed.
• Coordinate benefits for employees and providers, including open enrollment.
• Process all Leaves of Absence (FMLA, PLOA, etc.), maintain proper documentation, and respond to employee requests.
• Handle all inquiries regarding benefit plans.
• Co-facilitate monthly new employee orientation.
• Coordinate and verify payroll reports to ensure accuracy of employees’ deductions with the payroll coordinator.
• Prepare benefits-related termination paperwork (e.g., Certificates of Insurability).
• Process all Workers Compensation claims.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate degree in human resources, business management, or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• 2+ years’ experience in human resources (preferred).
• Complete Safe From Harm training and keep current as needed.
• Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR).

Skills

• Maintain strict confidentiality.
• Willing to train and learn a full range of skills related to the position.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
• Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint.
• Knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).
• Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
• Willingness to learn new software as needed.
