Benefits Coordinator
Responsibilities
- Manage employee benefit transactions by processing enrollments, terminations, and status updates while confirming all records are complete and accurate.
- Cook up information for insurance carriers regarding claims exposure, coverage matters, and employee benefit documentation.
- File and keep tabs on property, liability, and related insurance claims, keeping in touch with employees and external insurance contacts until the issue is resolved.
- Support compliance efforts by creating and maintaining procedures in line with employee benefits regulations, workers' compensation requirements, and insurance plan obligations.
- Use your knowledge of the Affordable Care Act to track eligibility, monitor part-time employee hours, and assist with applicable reporting and fee submissions.
- Oversee processes that safeguard confidential health-related information while being a resource for privacy-related matters concerning employee records.
- Answer routine human resources questions like employment verification requests and provide benefits guidance during onboarding.
- Maintain personnel and departmental files in both electronic and physical formats, ensuring records are organized, accessible, and retained appropriately.
- Compile data from spreadsheets, databases, and internal files to prepare administrative reports, benefit summaries, and other HR-related documentation.
- Draft clear correspondence and produce forms, letters, reports, and supporting materials while sticking to company policies and assigned priorities.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Public Administration, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in benefits, HR administration, or a closely related function.
- Hands-on experience with benefits coordination, benefit functions, COBRA administration, leave of absence processes, or compensation and benefits support.
- Familiarity with Affordable Care Act compliance; direct related experience is required.
- Additional experience with broader benefits compliance and insurance administration is preferred.
- Proficiency with computer-based communication tools, spreadsheets, and electronic record-keeping systems.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential employee and benefits information with sound judgment and discretion.
