About the role
The PositionMichael Best & Friedrich LLP is seeking a Mid-level Associate Attorney to join our best-in-class Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation group in any of our offices. The candidate should have at least three to five years of benefits experience in private practice. We are looking for someone with experience with qualified retirement plans, health & welfare plans, and executive & deferred compensation arrangements. Supporting benefits and compensation in M&A, ERISA litigation and withdrawal liability experience is a plus. Applicants must be detail oriented and possess excellent writing, oral advocacy, communication, and legal analysis skills. The associate should like to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Handle the complete spectrum of benefit and compensation issues
- Advising on cutting edge benefits developments that have impacted national policy
- Working with clients including some of the most recognizable and iconic brands in the world
- Supporting benefits and compensation in M&A, ERISA litigation and withdrawal liability experience
- Developing relationships and fostering teamwork at all levels of the Firm
- Managing confidential information and sensitive situations with tact and discretion
- Identifying and analyzing issues, making decisions, and initiating actions/solutions
- Responding to unexpected challenges and proactively developing innovative solutions to complex problems
Requirements
- J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
- Excellent academic credentials
- Three to five years of employment benefits experience in private practice
- Ability to learn and embrace new skills and best practices as the position evolves and Firm needs change
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage confidential information and sensitive situations with tact and discretion
- Ability to maintain composure and demonstrate good judgment
Qualifications
- Valid authorization to work in the U.S.
