About the role

As a Benefits Advisor under general supervision, you will administer Health & Welfare (H&W) benefit programs, serving as the primary owner of new hire enrollments, qualifying change event processing, and annual Open Enrollment. This role acts as a subject-matter expert on H&W programs, partners closely with HR, Payroll, and external vendors, and provides excellent customer service to employees.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA/FSA, and other ancillary benefit programs.
  • Process qualified change events, eligibility updates, and corrections in HRIS/benefits administration systems.
  • Monitor plan enrollment, investigate discrepancies, and ensure accurate vendor eligibility files.
  • Support Annual Open Enrollment, including testing, data audits, communications, and employee support.
  • Participate in systems testing for benefit updates, integrations, interfaces, and configuration changes.
  • Provide timely and accurate guidance to employees on H&W benefits, claims issues, and eligibility questions.
  • Partner with carriers and third-party administrators to resolve claims escalations and service issues.
  • Support compliance with HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, ERISA, Section 125, and other regulatory requirements through accurate recordkeeping and timely processing of events.
  • Work with Payroll to ensure accurate deductions and timely adjustments.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years of professional health & welfare benefits administration experience required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and customer-service skills required.
  • Experience with SAP or similar HRIS/benefits platforms required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher level degree preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical and pharmacy plans, life and disability products, and Section 125 plans preferred.
