About the role
This position serves as a central point of contact for county office staff, providing necessary information to the State Office for IV-E and Medicaid eligibility determinations for children in foster care. The role requires travel throughout the assigned region to various counties each week.
Responsibilities
- Track children on the eligibility spreadsheet and collaborate with social workers to update or correct information in the Child Welfare system.
- Apply for Social Security cards and/or birth certificates for children in MDCPS custody and submit copies to the State Office for federal and Medicaid eligibility purposes.
- Contact the Social Security Administration to change the representative payee for any child in MDCPS custody receiving Social Security or SSI.
- Work with social workers to apply for disability benefits and/or survivor benefits for children in MDCPS custody deemed disabled.
- Assist in applying for Medicaid for children in MDCPS custody needing medical coverage.
- Inquire with State Office Eligibility staff about the status of medical coverage and obtain Medicaid information for upcoming doctor or pharmacy visits.
- Help social workers complete IV-E and Medicaid eligibility determination paperwork, including obtaining income information from Economic Assistance when available.
- Enter case narratives into the Child Welfare system relevant to the child’s removal from the home.
- Review court orders for children in MDCPS custody for accuracy and communicate with Court Administrators to request necessary corrections.
- Assist social workers, social worker supervisors, and State Office eligibility staff with additional tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma).
- 2–4 years of work-related experience.
