About the role
We are seeking a dedicated professional to lead and embed a stable careers programme in our academy, ensuring it meets the Gatsby Benchmarks for good career guidance. This role involves developing, implementing, and evaluating a structured careers programme that is known and understood by students, parents, teachers, governors, and employers. The programme should be published on the school’s website and regularly evaluated with feedback from all stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a stable, structured careers programme with explicit backing from the senior management team.
- Ensure the careers programme is accessible and understandable to students, parents, teachers, and employers via the school’s website.
- Regularly evaluate the careers programme using feedback from students, parents, teachers, and employers.
- Provide good quality career and labour market information to students and parents, supporting informed decision-making by age 14.
- Tailor advice and support to the needs of each student, challenging stereotypical thinking and raising aspirations.
- Maintain systematic records of individual advice given to students and their subsequent decisions, ensuring students have access to these records.
- Collect and maintain accurate data on students’ education, training, or employment destinations for at least three years after they leave school.
- Integrate careers and enterprise education into standard lessons, linking curriculum learning to real-world career paths, with a focus on STEM subjects.
- Facilitate encounters with employers and employees, ensuring students participate in at least one meaningful encounter with an employer every year from age 11.
- Coordinate experiences of workplaces for students, ensuring they have at least one such experience by age 16 and another by age 18.
- Provide encounters with further and higher education institutions, ensuring students are exposed to potential professions and study options.
- Offer personal guidance interviews with a trained career adviser for all students by age 16, with the opportunity for a further interview by age 18.
- Work with the regional local enterprise advisor to align the careers programme with the strategic plan of the region.
- Promote subject-based career advice across all disciplines, including Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Childcare, Computer Science, Dance, Design & Technology, Engineering, English, Food, Geography, Health and Social Care, History, Maths, MFL, Music, PE, Physics, and RE.
