Responsibilities
- Determines and implements a curriculum in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science for the Family Practice Residency Program.
- Maintains alignment with the “Essentials” for Family Practice residency training as outlined by the RRC of the ACGME.
- Teaches patient-centered interviewing and office-based counseling skills through direct observation and supervision, including video review and critique of doctor-patient encounters.
- Instructs residents and medical students in the assessment and management of psychological disorders and conditions commonly encountered in primary care, and promotes awareness of behavioral health community resources while assisting with referrals.
- Coordinates and conducts behavioral science lectures.
- Learns or facilitates support groups and Balint seminars for residents.
- Oversees the use of standardized patients for competency acquisition and assessment.
- Develops new standardized patient scenarios as necessary for the acquisition of necessary skill sets in doctor-patient communication.
- Advices physician faculty in the development and implementation of remedial interventions for identified residents.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Psychology.
- Required or Doctorate in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Human Service Field.
- Required Work Experience: 3 years in Behavioral science, family therapy, or psychology.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills, teaching skills.
