Behavioral Health Therapist

About the role

Provides clinical behavioral health services to patients and families of all ages at Apicha Community Health Center. The scope of practice includes psychological assessments, diagnostic assessment, counseling, psychotherapy, brief treatment, behavior modification, crisis intervention, and behavioral health consultation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychosocial assessments, assign diagnoses according to DSM-5 and ICD-10, create and implement treatment plans with patients in the Primary Care clinic.
• Facilitate related services for Apicha’s patients while respecting confidentiality and privacy.
• Provide treatment services to an assigned caseload, with the number based on show rate, modalities provided (e.g., individual therapy, group and individual therapy), and weekly utilization/billing targets.
• Deliver psychotherapy and psychoeducation using individual, family, and group models.
• Involve patients in their own treatment planning and education about their illness(es).
• Provide crisis intervention, including escorting patients to the emergency room and developing safety plans for patients at risk for suicide or homicide.
• Collaborate with primary care providers and make referrals as required.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
• Complete charting in the electronic medical record (EMR) and concurrent documentation, as well as all required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Contribute to Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities.
• Participate in the development and review of Apicha’s behavioral health policies and procedures.
• Practice within the scope of license, training, and credentialing, in accordance with current standards of care and quality criteria adopted by Apicha and the NYSDOH.
• Produce required reports in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Valid New York State license to provide mental health services (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT) required.
• Advanced degree in mental health counseling, social work, or a related field required.
• Experience working with target populations strongly preferred, including individuals with serious mental illness, developmental disabilities, serious substance use disorders (SUDs), individuals at high risk of or living with HIV/AIDS, chronic illness, Asians and Pacific Islanders, LGBTQ+, and immigrants.
• Strong organizational skills to manage patient assessments and treatment plans.
• Experience maintaining accurate electronic medical records and documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build rapport quickly and communicate with compassion and empathy.
• Detail-oriented and able to work effectively in both collaborative and individual settings.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a multicultural setting.
• Ability to work with Limited English Proficient populations and provide interpretation support.
• Fluency in Spanish or an Asian language is a plus.
• Familiarity with eClinicalWorks (eCW) preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to enter data accurately.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
