We are excited to welcome a Behavioral Health Technician to our new Inpatient Psychiatry Units at UNC Health Youth Behavioral Health (YBH) in Butner, North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Aids patients in reality orientation
  • Participates in behavior modification plans/therapy
  • Provides informal support therapy to patients/families
  • Provides verbal de-escalation of potentially aggressive patients
  • Aids in the physical management of aggressive/out-of-control patients
  • Facilitates age appropriate play for children
  • Makes observations and documents patient information
  • Provides direct personal care to patients
  • Assists with the admission of new patients and orientations
  • Provides care and monitoring of patients in seclusion and/or restraint
  • Distributes patient education materials
  • Reinforces routine teaching given by the registered nurse or physician

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Must have 1 year working in a behavioral health/neurosciences unit
  • Shift: Day/Night Rotating, with current need being night shift with rotating weekends and holidays
  • Hours: Full time; 36 Hours Per Week; Three 12 hour shifts a week

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • Licensed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within 60 days from date of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Skills

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and hospital staff
  • Express sensitivity and understanding to patients
  • Work with groups of patients or individuals in didactic or recreational groups
  • Keep calm in stressful situations
  • Fluent in verbal and written English language
  • Develop computer skills if not competent

Benefits

This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package including PTO hours, which are accrued based on the number of worked hours. This position requires the ability to attend a weeklong hospital orientation in Chapel Hill, offered every two weeks in Chapel Hill, NC.

Pay

$18.84 - $26.77 per hour (Hiring Range)
