Behavioral Health Technician-Duke Regional Hospital ED

About the role

Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to support patients with psychiatric disorders. The role involves observing patients, assisting with activities of daily living, and participating in various therapeutic activities.

Responsibilities

• Observe patients and assess progress on a daily basis
• Report significant changes in patients' condition or behavior to supervising RN
• Interact with patients on a one-to-one basis to provide recreational or social activities
• Assist patients in activities of daily living such as making beds, bathing, personal hygiene, feeding, and dressing
• Auxiliary tasks include position changes, range of motion exercises, transfers, and walking
• Provide care and monitoring for patients in seclusion and/or restraint
• Ensure compliance with safety and infection control guidelines
• Participate in staff discussions to assess, coordinate, and execute patient care
• Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment
• Participate in reviewing activities and processes for work area and implementing changes for continual improvement
• Participate in organizing and conducting recreational activities
• Interact with patients on a one-to-one and small group basis to assist in planning treatment plans
• Perform other related duties as needed

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or GED
• Experience: 1 year of experience working with patients with substance abuse, mental health, dementia diagnosis, intellectually or disabled patients preferred
• Certification: Must be listed on the Nurse Aid Registry of North Carolina or certified as a Substance Abuse Counselor, Emergency Medical Technician, or Behavioral Health Technician
• BLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation
• CPI certification strongly preferred
• Ability to perform analysis of blood glucose from finger sticks and report findings to nurse
• Complete quality control measures for blood glucose testing equipment
• Responsible for patient identification, specimen labeling, and collection verification
• Instruct patients on collection and preservation of urine, sputum, and stool samples for analysis
• Obtain and record vital signs, intake, and output amounts within 90 days of employment

Qualifications
