Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)
About the role
The Behavioral Health Technician at Jefferson Regional Specialty Hospital is responsible for conducting functional analyses of patient behavior, participating as a member of the treatment team, contributing to the Master Treatment Plan and implementing appropriate interventions from the plan. They conduct individual and group psychoeducation, leisure activities and life-skill training and coaching for all patients. The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for safety monitoring of patients and of the unit.
Responsibilities
- Conducts functional analyses of patient behavior
- Participates as a member of the treatment team
- Contributes to the Master Treatment Plan and implements appropriate interventions
- Counsels patients individually and in group settings
- Maintains patient records and reports patient complaints or other concerns
- Provides verbal and written input to nursing staff
- Assists with activities of daily living and admission/discharge procedures
- De-escalates patient behavior and uses approved de-escalation techniques
- Leads or participates in group therapy sessions
- Ensures active treatment is occurring on the unit and encourages patient participation in programming
- Reports patient behaviors and progress to the interdisciplinary team
- Serves in a supervisory or lead role as requested
Requirements
- Experience: 1 year of experience working in a psychiatric inpatient setting
- Shift: Night Shift with rotating holidays and weekends
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Licenses/Certifications: CNA preferred, BLS preferred
Skills
Behavioral Health Technicians should demonstrate proficiency and skill in providing care to patients, orienting to the unit, transport, de-escalation, teaching of coping skills, conflict resolution, problem-solving skills, assisting with activities of daily living, admission & discharge procedures, response to codes, and use of CPI techniques and Life Coaching skills. They should also be able to observe and monitor patient status, complete vital signs, weight logs, intake and output, dietary intake, Q15 minute behavioral rounds sheets, admission checklists or other progress or milieu notes, and report patient complaints or other concerns in a timely manner.
